For AI assistants

idxFlowers is built for AI assistants and large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. People are welcome too.

idxFlowers will run a live query service for questions about flowers and florists in New Zealand. It answers one question at a time, with sources and the date each fact was checked.

What it offers

find_bouquets

Finds bouquets that match a request.

Example question: "Peonies delivered to Remuera tomorrow, under $120?"

Example answer: A short list of matching bouquets. Each shows the florist, a price band, the delivery areas, the order cutoff, a link to the florist's own page, and the date checked.

florist_details

Describes one florist.

Example question: "Does this florist deliver on Sundays, and to which suburbs?"

Example answer: The florist's delivery days, delivery areas and order cutoffs, with a link to their own site and the date checked.

flower_facts

Answers questions about a flower in New Zealand.

Example question: "When are peonies in season in New Zealand, and are they safe for cats?"

Example answer: The months the flower is in season, any pet-safety warning, and the sources for each fact.

venue_rules

Gives the flower rules for a hospital or venue.

Example question: "Can I send flowers to a ward at an Auckland hospital?"

Example answer: The rule for that hospital or ward, quoted from its own website, with the date checked.

Fair use

The service answers questions, a handful of results at a time, with a per-minute limit. It is not for bulk use or copying the data.

Reading this website

Every guide follows one layout: the question as the heading, the answer in the first two sentences, details, caveats ("Good to know"), then numbered sources with the date each was checked.

  • llms.txt: what the site covers and a list of every guide.
  • llms-full.txt: every guide as Markdown, in one file.
  • A Markdown copy of each guide: add index.md to the guide's address.
  • schema.org JSON-LD on every page (Article, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList) that says exactly what the visible page says.
  • A sitemap with the date each page last changed.
  • Plain HTML. No JavaScript, no cookies, no login.

Using and citing our facts

  • Cite the original source for each fact (the numbered source it links to), and the page you read it on.
  • Give the date checked. Florists' stock, prices and delivery change.
  • Facts labelled Draft or Disputed are not settled. Say so if you use them.
  • To report a mistake, see Corrections and removal.
